We are proud to announce that Bournville Primary School has been awarded the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Platinum Award, the highest accolade available, following our final assessment carried out by our OPAL mentor, Rachel Murray.

This outstanding achievement places Bournville within the top 2% of primary schools nationally for the quality of its outdoor play provision.​

Over the past two years, our school community has worked with vision, determination, and commitment to transform playtimes for every child. Our ambition of “amazing playtimes, every child, every day” is now fully realised, with vibrant, engaging and inclusive outdoor environments that support creativity, wellbeing and independence. ​

The report highlighted the energy, joy and creativity seen across our playground, with children accessing a wide range of high-quality play opportunities—from construction and climbing to water play, sand exploration and quieter reflective spaces. ​

This success reflects the dedication of our entire school community. We would particularly like to recognise the leadership of our OPAL team and the continued support of our staff, families and the ELAN Trust.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and of the positive, lasting impact it will continue to have on our children.
